Driving the conversation: News, trends, and events for car enthusiasts

Welcome

TikTok was officially banned this weekend
and then back online less than a day later. JDM enthusiasts are hoping that Lexus pull the same stunt and bring back their favorite suit-wearing rice burner.

Fortunately for us, that means it’s not too late for us to create that TikTok account and become influencers. Until we figure out how to do that, here’s what we have for you this week:

Lexus RC F Added to List of V8s to Be Leaving Us

Lexus

The world is changing in this new automotive era, and Acura has followed the trend of many other manufacturers by announcing that its latest EV will tarnish the name of a nostalgic sports car — the RSX.

To further disappoint JDM fans, Lexus confirmed this week that the RC coupes will be discontinued after this year. This includes the beloved ‘luxury’ V8 coupe, the RC F.

It has been a tough few years for V8 enthusiasts. With the Camaro and both Dodge muscle cars now gone, only the Mustang and the CTS-V remain as the last rear-wheel-drive, manual transmission cars with V8 engines. If you can settle for paddle shifters, your options broaden to the Corvette, , an M8, AMG models (including Aston Martin), or you can wait for Lexus’ highly anticipated successor to the LFA.

The Lexus LFR is expected to debut this year, though it won’t hit showrooms until 2026.

Canada Halts EV Rebate Program - Backpedals on Mandates

Nissan Canada

Canada announced this week that it needs to put a sudden end to it’s federal rebate program, which had been expected to run until the end of March. Transport Canada claim it’s Incentives for Zero Emissions Vehicles (iZEV) program has run out of money.

The $5,000 that was previously footed by the program is now being offered up by automakers Ford, GM, Hyundai and Nissan. This adds to the stress caused by EVs to both the government and companies.

The Canadian government currently mandates that electric vehicle adoption be at 20%, a bold 60% by 2030 and full adoption by 2035. However, only 11.7% of the market has taken on the charge. After recent developments, the president and CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers stated, “the federal government’s mandated ZEV sales targets are increasingly unrealistic and must end.”

How does this bode for the future of the U.S. market?
