Waymo began welcoming riders in San Diego, while Tesla launched its steering-wheel-free Cybercab in Austin — the same gold prototypes you may have seen testing around town.

We’re not tossing our steering wheels yet, but if one of these rolls by, you might as well wave hello to the future.

The Range Rover Finally Goes Electric

After more than half a century, there's finally a Range Rover without an engine, and surprisingly, it still looks almost exactly like a Range Rover.

The new Range Rover Electric uses two motors producing 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, with an EPA-estimated range of up to 333 miles. Its 800-volt charging system can take the massive 118.5-kWh battery from 10–80% in a claimed 22 minutes.

Range Rover hasn't abandoned the off-road part of the equation, either. The Electric can still wade through up to 35 inches of water, while a new traction system can adjust power at each wheel far faster than the combustion-powered version.

Maybe the most interesting part is what Range Rover didn't change. Rather than making its first EV look like a spaceship, it built something intentionally familiar. The question now is whether Range Rover buyers are ready to trade the V8 soundtrack for near silence.
