’Leno’s Law’: A Win for Classic Car Fans

Jay Leno isn’t just cracking jokes—he’s helping crack down on California’s strict smog laws for classic cars. Senate Bill 712 (aka Leno’s Law) could bring back the rolling 35-year smog exemption, meaning anything from 1989 and older would be free from emissions testing.

Right now, only pre-1975 cars get a pass. This bill would change that, saving classic car owners from a $1,000 smog fee and a bureaucratic headache.

Of course, environmental groups worry about pollution, but enthusiasts argue that classic cars make up a tiny fraction of vehicles on the road.

The bill has bipartisan support and heads to the Senate Transportation Committee next. If it passes, it’ll cruise through more legislative hoops before landing on Governor Newsom’s desk.
